Polaris Health Directions Awarded NIDA Phase II Grant for DARSSA System

Langhorne, PA (July 2008)Polaris has been awarded a phase two STTR grant for its alcohol, drug and tobacco screening and referral system for use in emergency departments and family practice settings.

Polaris-DARSSA (Dynamic Assessment and Referral for Smoking and Substance Abuse) will be enhanced and studied in a three-year randomized trial through the grant provided by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

DARSSA fully supports the SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment) model, which has been demonstrated in a number of studies to be effective in identifying people in need of treatment, and motivating them to enter a treatment program. DARSSA will be a complete SBIRT solution that will provide automated screening of patients, tailored patient feedback reports, tailored treatment provider referral lists and faxed referrals to participating treatment providers upon the patient’s request.
